Breastfeeding News: Run-ins with the law

Breastfeeding Police Officers in DC are being taken out of offices and put back on “the beat” – away from the pumps and private spaces afforded to them in the department’s Lactation Accommodation Policy that was created as a results of Federal Work Place Laws.  The Police officers union filed a grievance with the recent ruling, saying the policy is “only practical if the female nursing member is working in an office setting, where she is not required to wear body armor.”

In a bizarre story – a woman in Ohio was arrested for spraying police officers with breastmilk.  It’s hard to tell if it’s the same story – but it looks like she went on to squirt breastmilk at the guard at jail as well.

Also – I, for one, am extremely excited about this series on NPR!  Beginnings: Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Beyond is a special series that began yesterday with a report on Mozambique.  If there’s an episode on Breastfeeding, it will be posted here!
