It’s been a very exciting week in the world of breastfeeding!
First the IRS reversed a previous decision and has made it so that breast pumps and other breastfeeding supplies are now tax-deductible!
Back in October, the IRS used an odd loophole to rule that breast pumps did not qualify for tax breaks, while acne cream does. While they don’t specify the healthy benefits of breastfeeding when they changed their ruling, this is clearly a victory for nursing mothers and babies!
The Washington DC metro area had an exciting breastfeeding friendly weekend. After an area mom was told to nurse her child in the bathroom of the Hirschhorn Museum a nurse-in was organized to support a woman’s right to breastfeed in public. At the same time, the Alexandria City Council changed its indecent exposure law to exclude breastfeeding! Another positive step towards removing the stigma of breastfeeding in public.
